[Equipment] ARRIS SB6141 no longer works with RCN in DC

Posting as I've not see anyone else having this issue. Might save someone some hassles. I've been an RCN customer for about 3 years on the 50 Mbs service, using my own provided modem, Arris SB6141. Never had any issues. On Tuesday, 6/20, my service stopped working. Turns out that 2 other people lost their service at the exact same time. I live in a condo unit and the cable junction room was rewired 2 weeks ago to meet fire code, so I assumed it was an issue with the rewiring there. It looked ok, when I found my RCN connection to the main connection in the junction box. On Wed, 6/21, technician shows up, checks my cable coax and hooks up his 8 channel modem successfully, declares my modem broken and offers to rent me an RCN modem, which I decline. Surprisingly doesn't charge me for the service call. On Fri, 6/23, amazon delivers new SB6141. Initially it pulls around 6 Mbs, which is odd. By the next morning it is no longer connecting and RCN tech support can't help. On Sat, 6/24, I successfully connect to a new Netgear CM600 (24 channel modem). After some initial issues (took long time to provision), it connects and works fine. It only uses 16 channels. TL;DR My guess is that RCN has made some infrastructure changes in my neighborhood that renders the SB6141 or other 8 channel modems incompatible. I negotiated an account service upgrade to 155 mbs and I am getting that performance now on the CM600.
