is anyone else having troubles in Chicago's andersonville? my net has been down since yesterday, and my housemates are out of town for the holiday. anyway, Linksys router is pretty much telling me the cable modem isn't talking to it. settings show me its not getting IPS or the gateway or anything. I've reset the wireless router and the cable modem and still no net. i also changed to the coax the tivo was on in another part of the house and no change. TiVo an cable seems to be working fine so its not like something has happened to the physical connection to the house. the cable modem just isnt getting the signal it wants.
my phone plan is a data not voice plan so I'm not going to burn the 100 mins I have waiting on hold, on xmas no less, plus the internet is in my housemates names so I'm unsure RCN would even talk to me. but I am wondering if there's anything else I can do by myself to troubleshoot. my computer is a beast three floors down from the modem so I haven't been able to hook it directly to the modem and bypass the router, but something like this happened a few weeks ago and it was not on our end, or so I was told after. my gut and a few years experience in tech is telling me its not the wireless router, but the modem or RCN.
do I just have to wait it out? or is there some trick I've missed that might help me get it running again?
