RCN seems to have a new policy whereby you can purchase HBO/Cinemax (& HBO GO) even if all you have is internet service (and TV setup boxes). It is no longer required to first get "Signature Service" (A&E, etc.).
This seems like a major policy change, whereby HBO can compete against Hulu+ directly. Will this be followed by similar actions by the other premium channels (Showtime/TMC, Starz/Encore) or possibly the basic tier Disney/ESPN or Universal/SYFY. Could it signify the breakdown of the monolithic cable offerings?
Or is it a limited fluke that only applies to RCN?
