I'm about to have RCN Internet installed in my home and am going to go with a 25Mbps Internet package. I would like to purchase my own modem to avoid the extra costs of renting one from RCN. All RCN says on their site is that the modem must be "DOCSIS 3.0 certified," cannot be an all in one, and cannot be an EMTA (whatever that means). My question is once I get a DOCSIS 3.0 modem, is it simply a matter of unplugging theirs and connecting RCN's with mine? Are there any other precautions I should take regarding the modem I purchase?
