We are getting ready to move out of our condo that has had a bulk deal with RCN into a new house that is hopefully serviced by RCN (their website doesn't recognize the address, but I haven't called yet).
I'm currently on the 50MBPS plan and interested in upgrading to the 155MBPS Plan. I have a router that I like very much that I would like to continue using. I would just buy a new cable modem that was capable of the higher speeds. However, I see on the RCN site that the 155MBPS plan requires you to rent RCN's "3-in-one Gateway". Is that actually required, or if I tell them I have my own equipment, will they still let me go to that speed tier? I don't want to buy my own new modem and find out later that they won't let me use it. I also don't want to use their device, as I am happy with my own router.
Any input/experience with this would be most appreciated. Thanks!
