Because of some slower speed issues, I rebooted my modem this evening.
The first two new entries in the modem event log after reboot were this:
12/22/2021 02:15 69010500 4 "SW upgrade Failed before download - File not Present"
12/22/2021 02:15 69010200 6 "SW Download INIT - Via Config file RG1_20-1-CM8200A"
This is for an Arris SB8200 modem.
The current firmware is AB01.02.053.01_112320_193.0A.NSH, and that is of course controlled by RCN as required by DOCSIS 3.1 This is a newer version than what originally was on my modem, and the firmware was provided by RCN. This newer version supports "ethernet link aggregation (LAG) which presumably is in anticipation of download speeds greater than 1 gigabit, and an upload speed increase as well. (Comcast already is using the Arris SB8200 and LAG to offer 1200/35; presumably, RCN will as well.) My internet connection already has two different WAN IP addresses, which already can be aggregated on both my modem and router, but only one of the WAN IPs has an active internet connection.
Is the error message related to a newer version of the firmware or just an earlier version already removed from RCN servers? If it is a new firmware version, what's that about?
Hoping someone from RCN can let the users know if a modem firmware update is coming, and add some information about the above-referenced error message.
