I have a five-year old Arris 8200 modem that recently keeps losing its blue light — which I gather is the sign that there is a Docsis 3.1 connection. Is there any way I can tell if this is a problem with my modem, so I should replace it — or an RCN/Astound problem, so I should go through the rigamarole of making an appointment for a technician?
I have Gig service. Unplugging the modem solves the problem for a while but it comes back after a few days.
When the blue light is off, my internet access via the computer and other devices seems to be unimpeded, but the Cable box (one of the Evolution boxes with Tivo software that RCN offers) loses its internet connection, which is how I usually know there's a problem and go check the modem.
