We are provisioned for 500Mbs but recently our speed fell to 30Mbs. Rebooting the cable modem will briefly return speeds to 500Mbs for a little while, then it falls back to 30. Channel PWR has always been too high, which had not previously been a problem.
Tech came today and said the problem was cabling - there was a flaw somewhere between the RCN junction and us and that was preventing the line from being in balance, resulting in too high power and the speed drops. He replaced the cable modem (which didn't help) and took out a splitter (as part of checking wiring), which moved the power yet higher. We're arranging for new cabling.
Speeds are no better and might be worse.
Can someone explain how cable wiring could cause our issues? It seems odd that flawed wiring could result in too much power.
