New Astound charges as of today (formerly $228.39 per month bundled service including Cable TV)
$47.00 A LA CARTE DATA 100MB
$20.00 A LA CARTE PHONE
$10.01 Internet Network Access and Maintenance Fee + Sales Tax
$15.26 Taxes and fees for phone
$16.95 Modem
I just persuaded my 88 year old mother to drop Cable TV in favor of Sling TV. My $102.99 Signature Cable/Phone/Internet package dropped $35.99 to $47+$20=$67 and of course the ridiculous $83.13 in TV surcharges and fees is gone.
The modem which is a decade old I have been leasing for free, then upped to $4, and now $16.95 contains the Embedded Multimedia Terminal Adapter (EMTA) for phone service. In the past the explained that even if I bought my own modem, they would have to T off to the old modem to give me phone service.
Now the customer support representative tells me that I can pay $50 and have a technician come out and insall a "phone jack" (her words) so that I could buy my own modem and stop payin $16.95 per month.
What does she mean? Does Astound still use an EMTA or do they have a seperate stand alone MA? I found this comment on the Astound help service, which makes it sound like nothing has changed.
Can Astound Broadband Digital Phone customers have BYOM?
Yes. Customers who use both services can bring their own modem, however, they will still need an Astound Broadband EMTA (Embedded Multimedia Terminal Adapter) to use Digital Phone service in addition to their BYOM compatible modem
