I'm about to buy a new modem and debating whether to buy a 16 or 24 channel modem. The 24 channel modem costs over 50% more than the 16 channel modem. I would be getting the 250 Mbps tier. Would this tier lock into 24 channels in New York City? RCN recommends a 24 channel modem, but it's unclear why, since it seems that many of its service areas don't currently use 24 channels.
(I also posted this question in the 155 Mbps thread. Posting at the top level because this question applies to other service tiers. 155 isn't offered for new customers in NYC via online ordering.)
